Social Studies
Purpose:
To develop an understanding of our world, it’s history, geography, and people.
Philosophy:
In our TK program, social studies is heavily connected to language arts
through the grade level themes. Social studies goals are met through the
use of cross-curricular activities and connections. Our aim is to help children
develop shared responsibility by becoming caretakers of themselves and
others within their family, community, and the world around them.
Goals:
- Develop sensitivity to the needs and feelings of others
- Develop a social awareness about themselves and others
- Take appropriate risks and make responsible decisions
- Understand the necessity of rules and following them
- Develop awareness of events before their birth
- Listen to views and discuss stories, poems, etc. - about people,
events, and commemorative holidays
