Preschools / Private Kindergartens

This is a very exciting time for typical and atypical children who will be 4.5 to 5 years old by August 31, 2012 or who will be entering Kindergarten in 2013.

Mission Statement

The mission of our Transitional / Private Kindergarten is to educate students by providing a dynamic educational system in which children actively participate to become lifelong learners. We emphasize a caring and supportive staff who will guide our students down a life path of academic, social and emotional confidence and success. We promote partnership between our school, our families, and our community to allow a multi-dimensional approach to the structure of our school. Our teachers' experience include autism specialists, regular and special educators, and speech therapists.

Unlike traditional preschools, Learn with the Best offers educational opportunities for children who struggle socially and / or academically including typical children and those with mild autism, developmental disabilities (DD), ADD / ADHD and learning disabilities.

We now offer an after-school program which will be available onsite to parents from 1:00-3:00 pm Monday through Friday. There will be a nominal charge for this service, but it will ensure your child is in a safe, familiar, and fun environment with his/her peers. After school care includes homework time, technology time, a snack and games.

Attention!
  • Learn with the Best Transitional Kindergarten offers "Rolling Enrollment" for our students which allows you greater access to our amazing program.
  • We offer tours Monday through Thursday from 9:45-10:30.
Reminder: As of 2010, the Birthday Cut-off Date is August 31.

Arts - TK

Arts - Purpose

To expose children to a balanced education of music, visual arts, and physical movement.

Philosophy

Through music, visual arts, and physical movement, children at Learn with the Best will establish a body and mind connection to benefit the whole child. Children will develop an appreciation of music through singing traditional songs, movement, and instruments. Also, we will give our students knowledge of the art process through hands-on art experiences. Finally, we will provide an opportunity for children to develop gross motor skills while promoting personal wellness and personal space through physical activity.

Goals

  • Develop beginning skills in improvising and creating music
  • Develop understanding of music in relation to cultures and other content areas
  • Recognize dance as a human form of expression to be enjoyed by all
  • Encourage children’s natural enthusiasm for movement
  • Develop fine motor skills through drawing, painting, cutting, gluing, and coloring

Science - TK

Science - Purpose

To develop key concepts of scientific language, attitudes, and process skills such as: predicting, observing, measuring, recording, data collection, classifying, and drawing conclusions.

Philosophy

Our hands-on exposure to physical science, earth science, and life science will provide a well-rounded opportunity for the discovery of scientific concepts. We view science as a cross-curricular concept that incorporates core learning areas: reading, writing, and math in a fun, applicable, and meaningful way.

Physical Science

Young children begin naturally exploring the world of science through the use of their senses. This unit will provide children with the materials and experiences to develop their scientific process skills of observing, classifying, comparing, and predicting.

Earth Science

Through investigation and inquiry, children will learn how their world has changed from the time of the dinosaurs until today. Also, children will identify ways that they can become responsible caretakers of their current environment.

Life Science

Children will experience the cycles of life through both plants and animals. Our hands-on approach to life changes helps create a solid scientific foundation incorporating observation, predicting, comparing, and researching.

Social Studies - TK

Social Studies - Purpose

To develop an understanding of our world, it’s history, geography, and people.

Philosophy

In our Transitional Kindergarten program, social studies is heavily connected to language arts through the grade level themes. Social studies goals are met through the use of cross-curricular activities and connections. Our aim is to help children develop shared responsibility by becoming caretakers of themselves and others within their family, community, and the world around them.

Goals

  • Develop sensitivity to the needs and feelings of others
  • Develop a social awareness about themselves and others
  • Take appropriate risks and make responsible decisions
  • Develop awareness of events before their birth
  • Listen to views and discuss stories, poems, etc. - about people, events, and commemorative holidays

Math - TK

Math - Purpose

To develop mathematically literate students who value mathematics, have confidence in their own math abilities, and who can communicate, problem solve and reason mathematically.

Philosophy

Learn with the Best utilizes a math program called Everyday Mathematics. This program was developed at the University of Chicago and focuses on exposing children to a wide variety of mathematic concepts through games, daily integrated classroom experiences, and both large and small group instruction. It is a spiraling math program which simply means that math concepts are introduced and revisited frequently throughout the school year to help build strong mathematic foundations.

Goals

  • Develop number sense including counting, number sets, and one-to-one correspondence
  • Sort and classify by color, shape, and size
  • Create and continue basic patterns
  • Develop an awareness of concepts related to estimation, measurement, clock, calendar, money, and temperature
  • Use graphs, pictures, and diagrams to solve problems
